Date Published 27 April 2023

The coronation of King Charles III - and his wife, soon to be known as Queen Camilla - will take place on Saturday 6 May 2023.

What is a coronation?

A coronation is both the symbolic and religious ceremony during which the king and queen is crowned and the physical act of placing a crown on a monarch's head. Coronations have remained the same for more than 1,000 years. The British ceremony is the only remaining event of its type in Europe.

Best places to watch the coronation

Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, The Mall, the Horse Guards Parade and Parliament Square are the best spots to watch the coronation, with royal fans advised to arrive early for the best chance at getting a good view.
