Spring

Date Published 30 March 2023

The clocks have gone forward and the days are starting to get longer; it's officially spring! Following what seemed like a never ending winter, it's time to get your property ready for the lighter, warmer months ahead. Here are some helpful tips for Landlords and Tenants:

Landlords:

Check the roof – keep an eye out for slipped, damaged or missing roof tiles. Strong winds can cause even more damage and increase the likelihood of rain affecting the internals of the property.

Review external woodwork – over winter it's not uncommon for external window sills and the like to get damaged. Consider carrying out maintenance to avoid the possibility of rot setting in and causing irreparable damage.

Check the gutters – if you haven't been keeping on top of gutter clearing/maintenance, by now your gutters are likely to be full of leaves and debris from the colder months. Make sure all gutters and drains are free from obstruction.

Tenants:

Spring cleaning – it may seem like a basic task but don't underestimate the benefits of having a proper de clutter! You'll find it easier to keep on top of day to day tasks when your property is tidy throughout.

Outside spaces – if you're fortunate enough to have a private garden, now's the time to sweep up dead leaves, mow the lawn and prune the hedges.

Keep ventilating – many of us may be guilty of not ventilating adequately over the winter because of how cold it can get. Fortunately, it's now warming up so there's no excuse not to open a few windows and help prevent the potential issues brought about by damp and condensation!
